Canucks Win Again... 4 In A Row

Feb 13, 2009

On Thursday evening, Vancouver Canuck fans were treated to another solid performance, as their team went into the desert and with the strength of 3 third period goals, came out with a 4-3 win against the Phoenix Coyotes.

It marks the 4th straight win for the Canucks after losing eight in row and going (0-5-3).  It also marked the 2nd straight game where the Canucks rallied from a pair of 2 goal deficits to come up with a victory.

After the Canucks went down in the first period again by a score of 2-0, in the 2nd period defenseman Mattias Ohlund cut the lead in half but with about 30 seconds left in the second stanza the Coyotes' Derek Morris restored Phoenix's 2 goal lead.

Vancouver outplayed and outscored the desert dogs 3-0 in the 3rd, with the winning goal scored on the power play by Henrik Sedin.

The breaks continued to go Vancouver's way, as they were given 5 consecutive power plays in the third period. They ended up going 1 for 5 with the man advantage.

While I see a reason for optimism lately and it’s great to see the offence come alive, I don’t think playing every game from behind will work down the stretch. As a fan I’ve been entertained, but I’m pretty sure the coaching staff has been experiencing a bit of heartburn. The Canucks have not limited their opponent to less than 3 goals in any of their last 6 games.

Again there still have been many more positives than negatives lately, but if the Canucks want success down the stretch, they’re going to have to tighten up their defensive game.

The Canucks will head into the Lone Star State for their next game to take on the Dallas Stars in an important matchup.  The Stars currently sit in 7th place in the Western Conference just 1 point back of the Canucks.
