Annual Events: Illuminaries Lantern Festival - Cancelled for 2008

One of the most magical events on the Vancouver calendar, the Illuminaries Lantern Festival, sees thousands of Vancouverites descend upon Trout Lake at dusk, for an evening of wonder, beauty and community. Staged mid-summer by the non-profit Public Dreams Society, the lantern procession requires the public to bring their own hand-made paper lanterns, lit from within by single candles. Some are elaborate works of art, made by artisans who have been participating for years; some are simple creations made by children experiencing the event for the first time. All are part of uniquely moving experience, a celebration of light, art and brotherhood at one of Vancouver's most beautiful parks. 2008's festival will not be held due to funding shortages at the Public Dreams society.
